FAQs

compass1. Is John Eldredge or any of the Ransomed Heart team going to be there?
No, but we undertake these events with their blessing and encouragement. And this year, we are excited to have Gary Barkalow joining us, who formerly served on Ransomed Heart’s leadership team, and has set off on his own ministry journey called “The Noble Heart” (www.thenobleheart.com). Gary’s passion is to help others discover their true God-given calling. You will be blessed by his teaching.

2. Is the Advanced based on a particular book or teaching?
Yes…on Gary Barkalow’s book It’s Your Call.

3. Can there be more than four men in a group?
No. The structure and content of the Advanced require each small group to be limited to four men.

4. Can one person register their entire group of four?
Since our registration process only accepts one registration for each e-mail address, each man will have to register and pay individually. So, decide on a name for your group and register separately. There will be a way for you to indicate your group name during the registration process. Because the event is limited to 40 men, we strongly recommend that all the members of your group register ASAP.

6. Is it necessary to come as a group of four?
Absolutely not. While some groups may register that way, please don’t be discouraged from attending if you need to come alone or with a friend or two. We will work to put foursomes together from your specific geographical area.

7. What if I can’t be there for the entire event?
Because each session of the Advanced will build on the last, and the strong emphasis on small group interaction, we are asking each man who attends to commit to the entire four days. Of course, this isn’t “jail”, so leaving early will be your choice. However, because of the design of the event, you will short-change not only yourself, but the members of your small group.

8. What qualifies as a “similiar event” to the Hearts Alive & Free Weekend?
Any event at an another venue that is modeled after Ransomed Heart’s Wild at Heart Boot Camp.

9. Will there be extra adventure activites at the Advanced like there are at the Weekend?
Since the focus of theĀ  Advanced is significantly different than the Weekend, we don’t have anything planned specifically. There is, however, a sweet gym and workout area, an indoor walking track, and a game area. There is a possibility that a climbing wall and bowling alley will be open during free times, but cost and availability are yet to be determined.

10. Why not Timber Wolf Lake?
While Timber Wolf Lake is an amazing facility, we believe that Gull Lake Ministries has a better facility to accommodate the vision and purpose for this particular event. Each group will stay in their own private cottage, and the corporate meeting area was more suitable. We will be holding all of the general sessions in their brand new state of the art ministry facility.

11. Is this a father-son event?
Although not specifically designed that way, the Advanced would be much more suitable for father-son participation than the Weekend. Have a talk with God on this, and feel free to do as the Spirit leads.

12. What should I bring?
No ties allowed. Since all meals, lodging, and bedding are provided, you only need comfortable clothing for the season (you will be walking a short distance in the outdoors to the meeting locations and meals) and personal hygiene items. Additionally, since you will be housed in cottages with full-kitchenettes, you may want to bring your favorite coffee or soft drinks and snacks for the refrigerator. Please bear in mind that no alcohol is allowed on the grounds of Gull Lake.
